For the past several years our church has developed a relationship with a community of Dalits in Dharmapuri, India. At the bottom of the Hindu caste system, Dalits are considered sub-human, and unworthy of the most basic rights. Known as “untouchables,” they live at risk of discrimination, violence, and enslavement through human trafficking every day. Dharmapuri is located in a region that has one of the highest per capita AIDS infection rates in the world. However, Dalits infected with AIDS have no access to life-extending medical care.
Aspen Grove has partnered with OM India to construct both an AIDS hospital and church building to serve the Dalits. We’ve also joined with an international humanitarian and development organization to provide English-based education and sustainable jobs.
