Scott Wenig, Lead Pastor
In addition to being Aspen Grove's primary teaching pastor, Scott is responsible for the church's vision and the development of its leaders. Scott grew up in Colorado and earned his B.S. in secondary social studies education at the Colorado State University. He went on to teach high school history before receiving his M. Div. at Denver Seminary and then his Ph.D. in church history at the University of Colorado. His church experience includes nearly 25 years in various teaching and leadership capacities including pastor of singles, college/career and high school groups, associate pastor of leadership development, director for seminary interns, and many other roles. Scott joined the faculty of Denver Seminary in 1994 and currently teaches there as professor of Applied Theology. He has contributed to The Dictionary of Christianity in America, Leadership Journal, and Leadership Handbook for Ministry.
Jon Holm, Pastor of Congregational Life
Jon Holm leads ministry staff management, pastoral care, visitation, teaching and men's ministry. After growing up on the mission field in Uganda, Africa, Jon attended high school and Northwestern College in Minnesota, where he met Ruth, his wife of 20 years. He and Ruth served in various churches in youth ministry before moving to Colorado for Jon to study at Denver Seminary. Jon's church leadership experience includes: young married and college ministries, elder participation, teaching, leadership development, mentoring and facility expansion. Jon was a Senior Project Manager at Omni Building Corporation for 10 years before joining AGCC full-time in January 2005. Jon and his wife, Ruth, have three teenage girls.
Kathy Henkelman, Finance and Administration
Kathy is responsible for AGCC's finances, legal, human resources, and administration. A Denver native, Kathy earned her B.A. at Biola University in Southern California. She has had her own accounting business for more than 25 years servicing small businesses, and has worked with nonprofits for almost 20 years. She has handled business administration for churches for over 15 years and has vast experience in managing all financial, facility, legal and human resources concerns. Kathy has volunteered with a number of inner city ministries including Mile High Ministries and the Denver Street School, and in 2004 assumed a part time position as Director of Finance for the Inner City Health Center. She currently employs two friends in her accounting business. Kathy and her husband, Leon, have two adult daughters.
Shelley Laverty, Ministry Development
Shelley heads up ministry development at AGCC, helping people identify their spiritual gifts to get involved in ministry and to start new ministries. She also oversees missions and is involved in church administration. Shelley grew up in Pennsylvania and landed in Denver in 1993. She earned her B.A. at the University of Pittsburgh and worked, among other positions, as a budget and policy specialist for the U.S. Department of Education. Her church leadership experience includes directing missions and ministry mobilization; she has also served as a Perspectives coordinator with her husband and has managed church capital building campaigns. Active in the metropolitan missions network, Shelley was the City Coordinator for the 2000 Denver Finishers Forum and has served on the steering committee for the 2001 and 2003 Denver regional missions conferences and is Co-Chair of the 2006 Connection Conference. Shelley and her husband, Vernon, have two adult children.
Mickey Clemons, Logistics and Hospitality
Mickey leads our team dedicated to the weekly set-up and tear down of the chapel and children's program classrooms, as well as the logistics associated with the coffee and donuts for Sunday mornings. Mickey is also involved in the planning for the Men's Ministry. Beginning in 2008, he and his wife, Jeannine, will be helping newcomers make connections with AGCC members and regular attenders. Mickey grew up in Maryland and made his way to the Rocky Mountains in 1970, entering the United States Air Force Academy Prep School, graduating with a BS Degree in Business Administration in 1975. After serving 5 years in the Air Force, Mickey and his family moved to Denver and he joined Martin Marietta in 1981. Professionally, Mickey is an Ethics Officer for Enterprise Information Systems, the internal IT Company for Lockheed Martin. Mickey and Jeannine have been married for 32 years and have 4 adult sons, along with a highschool aged daughter. Mickey has been involved in local church ministry and service since the early 80s in a variety of positions, including youth and men's ministry, in addition to serving as a member of the ministry council at their prior church. Mickey and his family have been attending AGCC since the fall of 2005.
